VANCOUVER ISLAND, Canada — Two B.C. paramedics were killed when their ambulance plunged off Highway 4 into the icy waters of Kennedy Lake early Tuesday.

B.J. Chute, spokesman for the Ambulance Paramedics of B.C. confirmed that the two unidentified ambulance attendants were killed in the crash about halfway between Tofino and Port Alberni.

"This is one of the saddest days in the history of the ambulance paramedics in B.C.," said Mr. Chute, who flew from Vancouver to Tofino Tuesday afternoon to offer the union's support to the families and assist in planning funeral arrangements.
